February is almost here & so it’s time to get our work & play lives in order!

Starting with a NEW TIMESLOT of ConcertBand rehearsals UPstairs @ the CON [in the AIR-conditioned Concert Room]:  4.45-6.30pm MONDAYS throughout NSW school terms [we’re trialling a slightly earlier time slot this year so that young players are able to play with both our ConcertBand AND the YouthJazz band (which starts 7pm same nights).

ConBand members MUST ENROL ONLINE  beforehand via the Northern Rivers Conservatorium’s website  –

  • Please choose the COMMUNITY MUSIC’ option, then ‘NEW‘ or ‘CONTINUING‘, then complete the ENSEMBLE & GROUP TUITION’ section ~  i.e. leave ‘Individual Tuition’ section blank <– This should only apply to NEW members; the system will remember your basic details for CONTINUING members.
  • No need to pay online YET:  the CON will send you an INVOICE + you can then pay the annual insurance fee either in person at the office before 5pm weekdays or online if you prefer by responding to their email when it comes.  (Separate term fees are payable directly to the Band rather than the Con).

See our own website homepage for info re: actual fees, including family deals:

  • Not all members are able to make every rehearsal or even the whole time-slot, & that’s just fine! 🙂 Talk to our treasurer about options to make playing music with us possible.
  • Are you a potentially NEW MEMBER & not sure yet if you want to commit to joining?  That’s OK too ~ Just come along to any rehearsal night once the Con’s refurbishments are completed & check us out either as a player or just watch & listen … You can decide after that if you’d like to join & then, of course, enrol. 🙂
  • School-age children are MOST welcome, but will need to be accompanied by an appropriate adult carer on the first occasion.

Combined Cadets + ConBand near Quad 17 Nov 2018

The ‘344 Musicians Flight Australia‘ will be visiting Lismore for the weekend of 17th November –> While they’re here, they’ll be taking an opportunity to play w/ us in a free & friendly COMBINED-BAND CONCERT near the Lismore QUAD* – i.e. under the trees at the back of the Con [or UPstairs inside the Con if it’s raining].

These young’uns [aged 13-18 + a few adults] look very disciplined & are sure to be solid players … This concert on the grassy area behind the Con [next to the Con carpark, between the Con & the Quad] offers a sweet mix of disciplinary challenge for our own ConBand with a chance for the cadets’ military-focused Band to enjoy what might be a more relaxing environment than their usual gigs.  Passers-by on the day won’t be able to help themselves but stop & listen & be inspired as together we create big beautiful sounds under the trees on this late Spring day … SEE U THERE!! 🙂

This is a FREE CONCERT for general public audience.

Every year the Lismore City Concert Band shares it music with show patrons, this year in the afternoon from 2.40pm – be there much earlier if you’re playing (don’t forget to schedule time to park & walk in!) ….

We’ll be playing inside the PAVILLION if it’s raining.

Official band uniform of black pants (or skirt) & white shirt with collar for this gig.

It’s that time of year again, when we get together with our neighbours/fellow regional players from Ballina to share tunes & inspire each other ….

It’ll be a day of the combined musical forces of Lismore City Concert Band AND the Ballina Shire Concert Band – we’ll learn our pieces & they’ll learn ours … with a shared lunch BBQ* in the midst of it all.

Although this is not an official performance, the public is welcome to attend, especially friends & family of the bands &/or aspiring players who are thinking of joining a community band.

These annual Combined Band Days are always relaxing enjoyable get-togethers … They provide a great sense of solidarity (as fellow players & community members) & tend to reinforce everyone’s commitment to musical craft. We look forward to seeing you all there! 😉

* Any folks with special dietary needs (such as vego or gluten-free, etc) may wish to bring along their own lunch or ingredients for the BBQ … Otherwise, a general sausage sizzle will be provided for lunch.

The Lismore City Concert Band Committee has decided that from Term 2 of 2018 & onwards, band fees will be significantly LESS for additional (dependent) family members … This is in order to assist parents who are paying for more than one child’s attendance at Band … We also hope to encourage more children to join the band:  the more the merrier!!  🙂

The new fee structure for FAMILIES that include dependent children are as follows:

1st family member (adult or child):  $50 per term (i.e. standard band fee)

2nd dependent/child:  $30 per term

Each additional dependent/child:  $20 per term

Temporary BandLeader …

Hi all …

Our Musical Director, Ben van Kleef is having a few weeks off from conducting the Lismore City Concert Band whilst he focuses on this weekend’s performances by Lismore Symphony Orchestra, which he is yet again conducting.

Laurie Green, Cornettist/Trumpeter, Teacher & Bandmaster/Conductor of several bands (including the Ballina Shire Concert Band & the Galaxy Jazz Band <— formerly known as the Northern Rivers Big Band), has stepped in to fill Ben’s shoes during this period.  (Laurie ALSO plays with the Lismore Symphony Orchestra.)

The Band has already had one session with Laurie at the helm & is benefiting from experiencing the perspectives that Laurie brings with him.  Many thanks, Laurie.
